About James Knill

I employ painting and photography to play around with our perceptions and how we understand them. My oil paintings are a unique exploration of color theory and composition. It is a distinct style that combines an application of color and hue with depth and abstract expressionism. The result is an experience of joy, wit, and shifting consciousness. An experiment in viewpoint, any one of my works can be absorbed and processed with completely different meanings.

My work has been exhibited in the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Boca Raton, FL.Five of my oil paintings are on permanent display at Lynn University. My work has been sought after by high end architecture firms including Studio Daniel Libeskind, who is the Master Architect of NYC’s Freedom Tower, One World Trade Center.

My work also includes an extensive portfolio of 35mm film and digital photography. My award winning photography has been featured on the cover of legendary surf magazine ESM. Notable subjects that I have photographed include iconic 11X world champion surfer Kelly Slater and the outstanding Gracie family, famous for founding the martial arts known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
